3 Extras To Get In Your Semi Lease As An Independent Truck Driver

Becoming an independent trucker means that you will be able to make all pertinent choices for yourself. This includes taking on the particular kinds of jobs that you like and driving load distances that suit your personal schedule at the time. The major responsibility for being an independent trucker is owning and maintaining your own vehicle.

If you are looking for a semi-truck lease, you will find good deals on newer equipment. Before you sign on any lease, here are three extras that you may want to have added to your semi lease in order to get a great deal upfront.

1. A buyout clause

There may come a time in your trucking career where you may decide that you would rather own a truck than pay on the lease. Some semi-truck leases can come with a buyout clause that allows you to turn the truck into a lease to own or to buy the truck outright for a specific price. Include this clause into your semi lease even if you do not wish to purchase at the time. You may find that your trucking career or finances would be better if you to purchase and maintain a truck outright.

2. You get to select the maintenance

During a truck lease, the vehicle must be properly maintained. All leases will require that the truck remains in good condition and that the maintenance such as oil changes and tune-ups are performed at the appropriate intervals. If you have to go with a particular maintenance company or if you are required to bring the car back to the dealership for servicing, this could cut into your regular trucking schedule. Be sure that you are allowed to get maintenance done where you see fit as long as you keep the appropriate records for the work.

3. Upgrade possibilities

One extra to try to add to your lease is the possibility of exchanging your leased semi in for an upgrade. The upgrades should offer you the option to sign on a new lease a certain amount of months before your current lease ends. This way if you need a truck that has different specifications you will not have to pay off your lease before getting the upgrade. The ability to upgrade through the company before the lease ends is also a good way to constantly have a new machine with upgrades that make trucking and driving easier.
